Programme Ono
From Migration To Modern Day (2-4 hours)

Recommendation: The Realm of Tane experience is also added into this programme to provide a complete introduction and greater understanding of all themes within this programme.

Undertaken either onsite in the themed Maori Theatre space located centrally at The Realm of Tane, this programme provides a thorough background to the migration path and techniques of Maori, their arrival and adaptation to a new land, along with a greater understanding of how and why Maori established tribal boundaries. Traversing time, students then learn how, why and when European arrived and the significant changes that happened through the 1800’s. From there, we discuss a number of significant events in history, and the role Maori played. Through the 1900’s we gain an understanding around the urban drift of Maori and why there is today such a significant renaissance and revival of Maori and Te Reo Maori. Students will be encouraged to contribute their thoughts around the future of Maori and the many other cultures within Aotearoa.

Specific Learning Areas:
