It is some years later. Te Haa has taken a wife and their son is blessed with the name Uitara, that of his ancestor. Like his grandfather before him, the young Uitrara is a gifted warrior.

His fame as a fearless gladiator spreads throughout the country. People say it is as if all the ancestors of previous generations have entered his soul to elevate him above all other warriors, and they believe Uitara’s power has a sacred purpose.

Fair-skinned people have begun arriving on boats from distant lands. Battles have broken out all over the land and many tribes are divided, driven apart by greed. The visitors have bought with them magic weapons - sticks that spit fire and can kill from afar!

From the West, word is also spreading that a great warlord Te Ao Huri is on the rise. He has traded early with the pale ones and has 250 of these new weapons. He is searching for fearless warriors to join his great campaign toward the South. Te Ao Huri has heard of Uitara’s amazing ability to fight both spiritual and physical battles and has invited him to join the rebel warriors. Te Haa, Uitara's father, has been visited by the spirit of his ancestors and knows that, some day soon, his son will join the fated campaign.
